Amaryllis (Hippeastrum), commonly referred to as Hippeastrum, is a perennial bulbous plant in the genus Hippeastrum of the Amaryllidaceae family.The flower stems are hollow, borne on 2 to 6 large, trumpet-shaped flowers in an umbel. The flowers come in a variety of colors, including red and pink, and the petals can be single or double. The beautifully shaped, large, and vibrant flowers are highly ornamental. It prefers warm, humid climates, with an optimal growth temperature of 15-25°C. It is not cold-tolerant and requires temperatures above 10°C in winter. It is a popular ornamental plant, suitable for potted plants, as a cut flower, for indoor decoration, or in floral arrangements.
