Phlox 'Eye Shadow' is an excellent perennial creeping phlox. While maintaining a very low plant height of only about 6 inches, it spreads rapidly, forming a dense groundcover 12 to 24 inches wide. Its tiny, densely packed, needle-like leaves, dark green, add a touch of greenery to the garden even when not in bloom. Its peak bloom occurs in late spring, when the plant is covered in a profusion of vibrant flowers. The flowers feature purple petals with a deep purple eyespot in the center, creating a striking contrast with the golden anthers. The five-pointed, star-shaped flowers, about 0.5 to 1 inch in diameter, are so abundant that the leaves are almost invisible when in bloom.
