Cheering Bluestem is an upright variety of the ornamental grass family. This perennial plant reaches a height of 30-36 inches, with upright stems and no runners. Its slender, linear leaves initially appear bright green, resembling "blue-green silk," with a delicate texture. The blue-green hue is most intense in summer. In early autumn, silvery-white spikes of inflorescence emerge, growing upright at the top of the plant. These spikes, 6-8 inches long, create a vibrant silver-red contrast with the leaves, creating a dynamic yet upright appearance. This variety is cold- and drought-tolerant (USDA zones 4-9) and tolerates poor soils. Its leaves are brighter in full sun, while they remain attractive in less shade. Its well-developed root system provides strong soil-binding properties.
